The 2017 season is well-underway and I’m really excited about the season. A 31st place to start the Elite Series off in Knoxville was great. The fans in East Tenn. really showed up and I wouldn’t be surprised to see a Bassmaster Classic here in the coming years. Cherokee Lake fished well but not up to the level it can be. We were mostly all having to fish very deep as the smallmouth had not come up to really start the Spring feed yet.
Having an Elite event here just makes me appreciate the wealth of good fishing opportunities we have here in East Tenn. In an hour or less I can be on five of the best lakes in country and fish a lot of different ways.
The second event on Okeechobee was a grind but I didn’t have a bomb (68th) so that’s important in the AOY points race. Fishing in Florida seems to be very random as we are fishing in crowds of anglers. We have to make our own luck as those of us at 13 Fishing like to say!
The Tennessee Team Trail kicked off its 2017 season with 192 boats on Chickamauga which is terrific. Should be another great season of team tournament fishing here in Tennessee.
